Greater snow goose hunting in Montmagny
Snow goose hunting in the Montmagny area, as well as
Cap-Tourmente
and
L'Ile-aux-Grues
, is also a place of choice. Thousand of birds gather there during fall and spring.

During fall, the rhizome is plentiful on the sandbanks. Three sanctuaries, one in Montmagny, one in Cap Saint-Ignace a few miles down the Saint-Lawrence and another one in Saint-Vallier, a few miles up the river, keep the birds around. They know that they won't be disturbed in those areas. They fly all along the sandbank to go from one sanctuary to the other. They also stop on the sandbank in between the sanctuaries. As numerous as they are, they also look for other food, like corn and other cereals that they find in farmer's fields all around that area. Hunting is not only good on the sandbanks, but also very good in farmer's fields.

Successful hunt in spring
During the spring, hunting is permitted only on farmland. Nobody is allowed to go on the sandbanks. While the spring conservation period is first to try to control the bird population and protect the northern fragile ecosystem, it is also a way to minimise farmland devastation by the geese.
Many
outfitters
offer their services in the area. Different plans are available. Many activities are going on during fall season. Festival in October,
Montmagny goose festival
Snow goose interpretation centre.
Travelling to the area is simple,
hotels, bed and breakfast, restaurants are plentiful, the warm population is most charming.
