Greater snow geese
(Cap-Tourmente, Québec)

Cap-Tourmente is a gathering place of choice for greater snow geese both fall and spring.

Snow geese Cap-tourmente

In October and April every year Environment Canada reports on a daily basis, the number of greater snow geese at Cap-tourmente click and see

For about one month, every day thousands of greater snow geese can be seen. This refuge is under the authority of the Canadian national wildlife agency. Around the end of September, beginning of October, and again end of April to the end of May, year after year, thousands of geese stop there on their migration to the south or north.

The following pictures show you Cap-Tourmente as the geese see it when they come in.

The first picture shows the buildings owned by the Canadian Government, part of the fields where the geese come to rest and feed and part of the sandbank.

The second picture shows part of the sandbank when the tide is about half way down. You can see the line of high water on the left. The green stuff is the rhizome that the geese will feed on for about one month in fall. When the geese go away, all of the rhizome is gone and what is left is the mud.
