Greater snow-goose hunting at Ile-aux-Grues, Québec
takes place mostly on the sandbanks north of the village.

Greater snow-goose
hunting is very well organized, controlled and managed by a co-op society.
Outfitters
are assigned
blinds
for their customers to use. The number of blinds is limited in order to reduce hunting pressure and make sure that customers have a reserved territory far enough from other hunters so nobody disturbs any one.
Hunters use high

and low tide blinds. Tides there can be as high as 22 feet. While you can walk to the high tide blind, going hunting at low tide is quite a long ways.
Outfitters
will take you to your low tide blind by boat,

Guides will clean the blind for you, have a
dog to retrieve the geese
, clean the birds and store them for you.

The picture below shows the village of Ile-aux-Grues looking on the St-Lawrence river towards the north. The tide is going down. When the tide is lowest a very narrow strip of water remains between Ile-aux-Grues in the foreground and Ile-aux-Canots, which is a private property, in the background.
This next picture shows part of the village of Ile-aux-Grues looking eastward. To the right towards the end of the village, the public airport where you can travel with
Air Montmagny
, serves all year long but specially for the islanders during a few months in the winter. At that time of the year, the ferry does not operate because of the ice on the river. The very far end of the island, l'Isle-aux-Oies, actually another island because at very high tide of about twenty feet and more this land become two different islands. l'Isle-aux-Oies is a private property.
