Travel to Montmagny and Ile-aux-Grues
Travelling from around the world to the Montmagny and l'ile-aux-Grues area for
snow-goose hunting,
is fairly simple. Most major air lines come to Montréal, a few come to Québec City. Air Canada is the national carrier. Some discount airlines also offer air travel to and from the largest cities in Canada. Some charter air lines fly from other countries to Montréal and Québec.
Once in Montréal or Québec City, car, pick-up truck or SUV rental is readily available at the airports. Montmagny is then a three-hour drive from Montréal. Just off the Montréal airport, take highway 20 east all the way to Montmagny.
Québec City to Montmagny is a one-hour drive. From the airport, drive towards the Laporte Bridge, cross the Saint-Lawrence River and take highway 20 east direct to Montmagny.

Going to Ile-aux-Grues is another 45 minutes on the ferry.
The ferry does not have a fixed schedule because the boat has to wait for high tide to dock in Montmagny.

The ferry service usually offers 2 round trips per day, sometimes 3 trips. The boat can take approximately 26 cars. This ferry is operated by Lavoie Navigation for the Québec Government and runs about nine months of the year or as long as there is no ice on the river. The service is free of charge.
If you want to go to Ile-aux-Grues as soon as you come in Montmagny and do not want to take your vehicle on the island, (you do not really need it there) you can travel by air and charter Air Montmagny

They use twin engine Britten-Norman Islander aircrafts that can carry up to nine passengers. Fees are around $35.00 one way per passenger and can be as low as $25.00 for higher number of passenger. It is a five-minute flight to the island.
